Dear Friend,
|
As the summer is
upon us and we all look forward to a chance to re-charge the batteries,
let's not forget that God's work continues. Please still take a few
moments to pray for the efforts of the Bible Society teams
mentioned here. Praise God for His faithfulness, goodness and
protection.
"LORD, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago."

Nepal's Official Visitors
|
|
The Nepal Bible Society (NBS)
received a scheduled visit from the Social Welfare Council (SWC) on
June 29.
This is the main Government
Body that approves their programmes and grants them permission to
receive foreign funding for their work.
The SWC team was very pleased to meet the Bible Society
Board members and senior staff on that day and were happy to limit their
visit to only one day rather than the planned week.
Give thanks
that the visit seemed positive and pray that the exposure to Bible
Society work will have a lasting, positive impression. Please pray for Tej Jirel
and the Bible Society team and
Board as they await the report which can take up to 3 weeks. May the
Lord guide the SWC into approving the work of NBS. (Some of the team

Help Continues in Chile
|
Although the story of the earthquake off the coast of
Chile at the end of February has disappeared from our news, the work of
the Chilean Bible Society in helping the survivors continues.
Most
recently the beneficiaries of aid and Scripture have been residents of
a temporary resettlement area called 'Camp Peralillo'. On a day of
heavy rain a team of Bible Society volunteers known as 'Messengers in
Action' visited the residents of the camp in their wooden homes. The temporary Peralillo community is
now home to about 8,000 people and its population is employed almost
wholly in the wine industry. Recent estimates put the death toll for
the earthquake, whose epicentre was offshore from the Maule Region, at
521.
Please pray for the ministry to the
people living in these resettlement areas. People are in much need of
encouragement, comfort and God's love. Pray for the 'Messengers' who
continue to reach out, that they may have the right help and the right
words for the people they meet.

Ministry in Uganda
|
We have recently
been in contact with Simon Peter Mukhama (pictured) from the Bible
Society in Uganda and would ask you to pray for their varied
ministry. Give thanks for the 200,000 Bibles that they are selling each year, despite
financial hardships. Simon Peter
dreams of distributing 500,000 Bibles a year - reaching many more
people. They have a 'Bible dinner' event at the end of September. Please pray
that this will be well attended and that it will be a successful
opportunity raising the profile of the Bible Society and securing some new supporters. Pray especially for work going on
to print a first Bible for a remote tribe who speak Ngakaramojong language. They
have support from Uganda's 'First Lady', but please pray that the
Lord will provide the additional support needed to make this possible. Give thanks
for the success of Christianity Explored in Uganda so far, please pray
for plans to launch it in Kampala in January where many more people
will be able to access the resource.
Pray too
for an event in the next two months to bring Young people together and
for a planned symposium aimed at the needs of Visually disabled people
on 2nd October.
