BURMA
(MYANMAR) - Pray for God's blessing on all those who are seeking
to ameliorate the effects of the recent cyclone and ask that those
seeking to do good would not be obstructed. The Bible Society of
Myanmar staff and Board are considering how they can most effectively
respond in terms of both the huge humanitarian and spiritual needs. Ask
that the holistic programmes that they create would be able to have
an impact at a time when there are acute needs, many restrictions,
ruined telecommunications and, as yet, no word as to what losses of
Bible stock that the Society itself has experienced. May this be a
time when Bible Societies around the world will be able to respond
generously, and that the huge physical and spiritual needs are fully met. |

LEBANON -
In recent days there has been a big increase in street rioting and
unrest among militia factions in Beirut, which has spread further
afield. Two of the Society's Bible outlets in the city have been
temporarily closed in the face of the unrest. Pray for calm in
that country which has been without a president for many months now
due to a lack of agreement among the political parties. Pray too
for safety for Bible Society staff as they continue their Christian witness. |

CHINA - On Sunday
18 May, the new Amity Printing Press will be officially opened
at Nanjing. Pray for a smooth transition to this new facility
with the capacity to print 12 million Bibles per year. Pray too
for one of the first tasks there - a first Bible for the Rubassa speakers
of the Bassa tribe of Nigeria. Ask that the setting up of the
digital files will go smoothly and that there will be no unexpected
delays, especially as it is more than 35 years since the New
Testament was published for this tribe. It has been a long wait for
the full Bible. |

THAILAND -
After 27 long years of hard work by translators, reviewers,
typesetters and proofreaders, the full Bible in Mien was
finally launched in March. This Bible is the fruit of cooperation
between the Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) and the Thailand
Bible Society. Unusually, it has been published in four different
scripts: Thai, Lao, old Roman and new Roman. Pray for all
those who are receiving this first Bible to be made available in
these languages, and ask that God would greatly bless them through
His Word. |
