In the spring of 2000, BSNI was approached by Baptist Youth to support a new Bible Story-telling initiative in schools called 'The Amazing Journey'. The aim was to work in partnership with local churches to present the Scriptures to school children in a highly visual way, using a chronological display (which fills an assembly hall), captivating narration, and characters who would walk on at various points, in costume, to tell their own story. Each child receives a pack to take home which includes a Scripture portion and the offer of a free 'Big Word for Kids' - CEV New Testament - a gift from the Bible Society.
Peter Lawther, a former teacher, works full-time co-ordinating the Amazing Journey exhibitions. His role involves liaising with the schools and local churches to explain the purpose of the project and to organise dates, times and volunteers. Peter also co-ordinates the day-to-day running of the Amazing Journey, acting as the main narrator on all 3 exhibitions. Charis Tully has recently come on board the AJ staff, based mainly in the greater Dublin area, Further information on this project may be obtained from Bible House. Schools wishing to book the Amazing Journey should contact Baptist Youth on 9261 9267, recognising that due to the high demand for it, bookings are made many months in advance.
