Creating Bible Encounters: the Bible in Everyday Life
Estonia is a secular society with a population of 1.4 million. The Christian Community is not very large - less than 15% belong in some way to a church, and more than 80% of the population does not have any connection with, or any interest in the church. Most people in Estonia don't know about the Bible. Only about 5% of schools have religious teaching in their curriculum. For many years the Bible was completely excluded from society.
The people in this country urgently need to know about the Word of God. By using a range of approaches, events and materials the Estonian Bible Society aims to reach both Christians and non Christians so they can engage with the Word of God and know what it really means for their lives today. They will focus on both Christian and secular outlets (churches, libraries, museums, universities), using weekly radio programmes, exhibitions, workshops and conferences to get the message to the people. Throughout the year they will also be creating a Handwritten Bible.
Please Pray…
Please pray that people who attend the conferences and exhibitions will become more enthusiastic about the importance of the Bible for their daily lives and will share this with their friends and neighbours.
