Teso Bible Literacy Project
This project addresses the Bible Society of Kenya's Mission, "To make available and to promote use of Scriptures in languages people understand best..."
According to the Kenya Literacy survey of 2007 only 66.1% of males and 47 % of females are literate in the Teso District in Bungoma County, thus there is need to introduce literacy classes in the area. Literacy in the Teso language is low as there has not been any literary works before. Discussions with community leaders have revealed that there is a need to introduce adult literacy classes and to equip lower primary school teachers with skills to teach the young pupils how to read and write the Teso language. This project will initially target to reach 30 lower primary school teachers and to initiate 5 adult literacy classes. The project will also publish Primers and New Reader Portions in the Teso language.
Please pray...
Pray that committed and qualified teachers of adults and children will be identified to pilot this project.
