Capture Competition - winners are announced!

Is the Bible really relevant today?

Pupils in Key Stage Three, from schools all across Northern Ireland, entered the Capture photography competition. The aim was to capture an image that showed how the Bible is still relevant in today’s society.

A wide range of entries were received, demonstrating the relevance of the stories of Abraham, Moses and Ruth. The judging panel was made up of Rev Edmund Mawhinney a past president of the Methodist Church in Ireland and member of the BSNI Board, Bob Torrens a photographer for the Newtownards Chronicle, and Leah McKibben Projects Manager of BSNI. Winners were selected based on both their interpretation and photographic quality.

Never walk away from him, because he will never walk away from youThe overall winner of the Capture competition was Jordan Moore, a Year 9 pupil from Dalriada School, who, looking at the Israelites in the book of Exodus captured an image showing how God never leaves us even if we turn our backs on him.

Light in darknessThe runner up for the Year Group 9 category was Hannah Frizzell from Dalriada School, who, thinking of Abraham’s story captured an image showing that even through the hard times, God is always there to bring the colour back to our lives.

New to the StreetsThe runner up for the Year Group 10 category was Ciara Lawlor from Belfast High School who captured an image that demonstrated how the book of Ruth can help someone feel part of a new society.

All entries were of a very high standard and showed that a great deal of thought and time had gone into the work. The Bible Society would like to congratulate all those who took part.
